"Bad Luggage" an Austin Indie Video
Over the past 5 years the major urban cities like NYC, Paris, London and SF have gotten far more than their fair share of attention. But little cities and small underground scenes have remained off the radar of most of skate media. Unbeknownst to the bigger media outlets, these small scenes actually produce some of our raddest video projects and skaters. The Austin, Texas scene has actually gotten a little more attention than most small cities thanks to the presence of the strong skate shop No Comply and talented filmer/videomaker Calvin Miller. But a new little crew of shredders we've never seen anything from just released their own indie video and we were really impressed. "Bad Luggage" is a super raw, bare bones VX edit filmed and edited by a few friends (Josh Howard, Eric Gilly & Christian Sanchez) who also star as it's headliners. The video has the feel of old 90's video projects focused around friends just cruising their own local streets and making the most out of what they've got. As we say quite often, there are a TON of skaters out there these days with plenty of skill, but it's a different story when a skater's footage really captures your attention and inspires or gets you truly stoked.
The Bad Luggage video features a small collection of friends and local homies that all rip and we were especially hyped on the opening and closing parts by Eric Gilley and Christian Sanchez. Both dudes have a strong presence on the board that's rather easy on the eyes. Eric's wallie skills and flow made his part a nice intro to the video and got us stoked right off the bat. And then Christian wraps the project up with just insanely fun and powerfully fast lines skating every inch of the city and leaving nothing untouched. Paired up with some well chosen jazz and raw, gritty filming made this probably my favorite part of 2021 so far. I was super hyped to see what these dudes are doing in Texas and looking forward to anything else they release in the future. Make sure to check out the video below and keep your eye on Christian, Eric and Josh for more to come.
