TOA's TOP 10 STATIC VI RE-EDIT CONTEST PICKS

We were a LITTLE overwhelmed by the amount of entries you guys hit us with for the Jordan Trahan Static VI re-edit contest. I think the final total came in at over 30, which is impressive considering that entering required downloading 25GB of footage and sifting through hundreds of clips. We also heard from a lot of you working on PC's that Quicktime files wouldn't open for you, which is a serious bummer and we apologize for that inconvenience.
The deadline for the contest happened to fall during an extremely busy week at the TOA office. So we apologize for the lag in getting this new post up but we've FINALLY watched every edit and made our picks for our TOA top 10.
So these are in completely random order, not in our order of favorites....but we'd like to hear from you in the comments on who you think should win and which are your favorites. Do you agree with our picks? Let us know if we blew it
-CLINT LOFKRANTZ (@clint_photographs) Hits us with all that jazz....This edit really tapped into the vibe of not only New Orleans, but also Jordan's style and created some shockingly good pacing and power for an all jazz edit
-PAUL YOUNG (@hityouoffmanagement) Brought a gritty, 90's east coast look and sound to his Jordan re-mix and it worked incredibly well. And the color grade and solid editing didn't hurt either.
-PRESTON SALASSI (@prestonsalassi) Started his edit off with some smooth trip-hop that really accentuated the visuals at the beginning of the paart. And then he knocked us on our asses with the Group Home slammer. Nice duality of smooth and gritty.
-GRAEL SIMONES (@graelskt) This edit just has an awesome overall feel and texture, with an afro-beat track that brings a new angle to Jordan's footage. And the very tasteful length, with careful choices of clips makes it highly re-watchable.
-BEN JONES (@a_man_with_a_movie_camera) This edit is just beautiful. Music curation, sound manipulation, tasteful slow-mo, vibes upon vibes. It really taps into a feeling of it's own. Ben is gonna be tough to beat but let's hear what you think.
-KENNEDY GIRARD (@kennedy.girard) Another editor who used audio in unique and powerful ways...Kennedy also switched things up with a trap track bleeding into a 1970's Chris Spedding track and brought us yet another new angle on Jordan's part.
-KERRY WEBB (@kerrywebb_) Asheville, North Carolina editor Kerry Webb just went FULL New Orleans with his edit and we're here for it. Kerry absolutely nails his slow-mos and it really works well in this re-imagining of Jordan's part.
-JOSHUA LUCIO (@space___jockey) This is not short of a complete re-imagining of what Jordan's Static VI part could be. Music, sound, video treatment, editing...it's got it all. This wild idea could've distracted from the beauty of Jordan's skating but it somehow accentuates it. Bold but it worked.
-HALL OATES (unknown) We're not really sure who this guy is, since no name was attached to his entry, but we really dug his edit. Who thought that a cover of Enter Sandman would work so well to Jordan's skating? We also really liked the sound-design and music editing into and out of this piece.
-ANDREW DESFORGES (@carol_ozoo) We liked that Andrew did his own titles for his edit and went a slightly different route clipping in imagery to lay on the New Orleans vibe thick. He even choose a track that's locally appropriate to New Orleans.
A few others worth mentioning that made it in our top favorites:
-AXEL DELEPINNE: Loved the concept of editing to the Beastie Boys and then cutting to a song heavily sampled by the Beasties as well. This WAS Mike Carroll's song in the Questionable video, but not all of us are old enough to have worshipped that part like we did.
-MACKLYN CARDWELL: This edit was rad and it was cool to see someone who watched Jordan come up as a young skater in the Baton Rouge area put together his own take on Jordan's footage.
-DOWHAT.NOW: Just liked the old western feeling of this edit but it was a bummer he was only able to post it on Instagram and couldn't get it to work on Youtube
OK, LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE! And our team of expert judges, filmers and skaters will give it some heavy consideration before making our #1 pick. Best of luck to everyone and thank you SO much to everybody who participated, downloaded all 25 GB of footage and put in your time and creativity towards this fun project!
