The Static VI Re-Mix Winner Hath Been Chosen!!

Man, we're always blown away with the talent that comes out of the woodwork whenever we've done these re-edit contests. And it's super rad to see a whole new take on a video part we've watched so many times. You guys brought the heat with so many different re-imagined versions of Jordan's part, it somehow never got old watching entry after entry. But, ALAS, we have to pick a "Winner".....
When it comes to an art form, like editing, there's really no such a thing as a "best". And, to be honest, between the 4 of us who picked the top edits, we all had 3 completely different picks for 1st and 2nd place. So it truly is a matter of taste. But that's why our judging panel consisted of Jordan Trahan himself, the guy who did the original edit, Josh Stewart, the other primary filmer on the Static VI project, Jake Todd and the guy designing the dvd packaging and who's been involved in every Static video since his opening part in Static III, Pat Stiener.
#1 BEN JONES NEW ORLEANS VIBE-OUT
Ben Jones came at this project with his weights & measures in alignment. Creating a perfectly balanced edit, with a soft, eerie start and easing into a solid, powerful second half that not only made you feel something but also felt completely on par with Jordan's style and vibe. With unique music tracks we'd never heard before, a tasteful use of slow-mo and just overall great editing made this a highly watchable edit even though we've all seen Jordan's original part 100 times. Excellent work, Ben, and congrats on winning a $250 gift card for the TOA webstore and a Static VI gift pack including a poster signed by everyone in the video. We'll also post your video on the TOA Youtube channel so fork it over!!
#2 KERRY WEBB's NEW ORLEANS DEEP DIVE
Kerry Webb read the room, sifted through the assets we provided and focused his edit around the look that the director had in mind. Choosing a song that almost reads as a soundtrack to the movie of Jordan's part. He also did what a lot of editors forget is their primary job, to make the tough decisions to edit out whatever isn't essential to keep the final piece as strong as it can be. And he kept this edit very tight, only using what best fit the music and made Jordan shine. It's short, powerful, on-brand and leaves you wanting more...the characteristics of a great part. Kerry wins a $100 TOA gift card and a Static VI promo pack!
#3 JOSH LUCIO'S STATIC VI MIND TRIP
There were so many bangin re-edits but one stood out as being in a completely other dimension. Josh Lucio took a risk, going way out on a limb and brought the audience to a new level of trippiness. The result is nothing short of incredible and, paired with excellent music curation, it's an absolutely beautiful experience for the eyes and ears. Josh's edit was highly competitive for 1-2 place, but the deciding factor was that we felt that the effects bordered on distracting from Jordan's skating a little bit...and needed just a smidge of toning down to let Jordan be the star of the show. Otherwise, this is an impeccable piece of work and we're honored that Josh put so much effort and creativity into it. We're going to gift Josh with a Static VI prize pack and a $50 gift card to TOA.
#HONORABLE MENTION: PAUL YOUNG'S 90's VIBIN
And, finally, we couldn't wrap this thing up without including the bangin re-edit that Paul Young put together. Not only was this one of the strongest remixes but Paul somehow downloaded all 25GB of source footage and uploaded his finished re-edit w/in 24 hours of us announcing the contest. So, he either has a time machine, or is really god at this. Paul has his look and vibe down...gritty and hard hitting. That opening bass hit alone got us vibin and it quickly brought us something very different from the original part and it worked. Paul has crushed it on previous TOA re-edit contest and we're hyped to see him back here on the podium again. Thanks for your entry!
Ben, Kerry, Josh and Paul, please email josh@theoriesofatlantis.com to help sort you out with your prizes and to get the winning edit up on the TOA Youtube channel. And thanks a million to everyone who put in the work to do a re-edit and submit an entry to this contest. It was a blast seeing everyone's different takes on this incredible part and many thanks to our judges as well for their help with the tough decisions.
