Our good friend Nikola Racan sent us a rad little video piece over the weekend that's quite a pleasure to watch. Nikola is one of the core creators and organizers of the incredible Vladimir Skate Film Festival which happens in the small town of Fazana, Croatia every year. And he's also a VX filmer who's been capturing the talent and beauty of skateboarding in his region for a long time now and he recently compiled all of his unused footage from the last 10 years into a single timeline to share with the world.
Skating in Croatia is a completely different experience. As you'd imagine there isn't an abundance of skaters spread across all of the old villages and towns throughout the country, but there's still plenty of talent. But when you watch videos from the region, the towns and surroundings command your attention just as much as the skaters themselves. It feels like a time warp to a simpler time and with the skaters acting as time travelers, stepping into a portal and rolling into an early 20th century world where skateboarding hasn't existed yet.
Nikola started working on a new video project right after his full length "Solstice" released in 2017, but soon life got in the way and his filming opportunities became fewer and fewer. With a family, work and the Vladimir festival, he never ended up completing the new video project but he recently decided to get all of the footage together and piece it together for the world to see. The edit is filmed primarily in Fazana, Vodnjan, Pula, along with other small cities in the area. And features Nich Kunz and Zoe Miloš, along with Dino Coce, Photo Jesus, Marko Zubak, Aymeric Nocus, and Delta. Give it a gander and enjoy....
