That frontside feeble photo is really sick btw. Kind of a bummer that it has to post so small in this format. But make sure to click it and view it full size. Pepsi hooked us up with some sick photos.

I think you’re mistaken SoCoreBro, I think we could use more skateboarders like this guy.

big ups to the builders.

I have witnessed some of his handiwork in Detroit and have the utmost respect for this dude. Skateboarding needs more of these types and will never progress without them.

Good interview. Jerry doesn’t seem as crazy as people say, but I’ve never met the guy. He just seems maybe crazily motivated? Which would be a filmer’s dream come true if you needed to film that person…

It’s pretty easy to respect people spots, but if you live in New York it’s like living in Barcelona or China. People from all over the world want to come and skate your spots. You can’t complain about tourists when you live in a tourist capital. Go live in Iowa if you want to keep your spots secret.

If you spend a lot of time building a spot, or fixing a spot, and that spot is in a place where people can see it, it’s going to get skated. Nobody knows if you filmed something there, or if your footage has been released. No out-of-towners are going to know who build the spot, they are just going to be psyched and probably want to film. If you want some credit, write your name and all the tricks you’ve already done. There, now everyone knows! As someone who has hooked up spots or made spots skate-able, you do feel some sort of ownership and entitlement, but what are you going to do at the end of the day when someone else skates there? A very small percentage of people who skate have any idea of “respect for a spot.” Kids are shit heads, and even most adults could really care less.

The best thing you can do is probably take nobody to your spot, or only those trustworthy. If they ruin the spot, don’t bring them to the next one. Right?

Or you can cry, I forgot there is always crying about your spots. That helps.

Look, there are two things at play here. The person, and what they produce. I’ve met this dude many times, and as a person he has been very hot and cold. Sometimes it’s friendly conversations, sometimes I get cool guy’d.

Guess what though…He rips, and his approach to skateboarding is unique. I love watching his video parts, and the stuff he does around NYC is priceless. Ultimately, who gives a fuck if he’s a little weird. If you took that kind of shit into account when thinking about someone’s creative output, no one would listen to Miles Davis.

Keep it up Jerry.
