News: Let’s Party!

Let’s Party!

So, now that the floors have been mopped, the garbage taken out and the air thoroughly freshened….(the smell of mildewy towels was out of control)....allow me to formally introduce you to the all new Theories of Atlantis site. I know, I know…you’re excited. I can’t blame you. “Why a new site?”, you ask, “what was wrong with the old one?”. Oh mister hypothetical blogger voice in my head, walk with me my child and I’ll tell you all about it.

The old

The biggest problem with the old Theories was that it was poorly organized and hard to maintain. Once a post slipped off the front page, the readers didn’t realize it still existed. And the old Theories only allowed for us to have one editor.

The new

The NEW TOA site will have multiple editors with contributions coming from all over the world and all organized in a way so that if you missed it on the front page, you can find it nested in one of the features.

Only members Anyone can post comments

In order to avoid the nightmarish mountain of spam problems we had with the old site, you now will have to create an account on the site in order to comment. It should take less than 30 seconds, but you’ll have to pick a name and settle with it forEVER! Or you can have as many names as you do email addresses. It’s up to you.

Temporarily we’re trying a new spam plugin, so we’ll see how this goes. Post comments just as before, but we might have to require accounts if it gets bad again.

Go forth and creep

Now, go creep around the site for a while and give ‘er a test. There will be a few snags as we get it ironed out, but you can expect some great new content in the days to follow. Welcome to Theories…..again.

Hey guys, Dave here. I did the design for many of Josh’s sites in the past, including the very old Theories and this new redesign.

If you run into any issues send me an email and I’ll do my best to check it out: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Don’t be an a-hole? Yeah right, that’s why people come here. New site is pretty nice, kinda like the old one. It was a bit easier to go through. On the plus side, it is easier to find old videos.

I will say this, I do find it a bit curious that Theorizer didn’t post Kenny’s new part or even mention it and that it took the comment of a one, Mr. Chris Field to start a conversation about this piece. Any thoughts?

That part was sick! The 50-50 alley-oop was the best maneuver.

Yes yes…you got me. I totally got nervous about people insulting Kenny Reed on my site so I built a time machine out of old VX-1000 parts, set the clock to 2008 and started to work on a whole new website. After a year’s worth of toil and sweat I finished up the website JUST in time to relaunch it and knock the insults out of the picture and crossed my fingers that the readers would just completely forget about the whole thing.
Damn, you’re good!

So no answer to those questions, huh? Let me restate them so they can’t be swept under the rug, Stewart style. You said in “Say your last Goodbye’s” when asked about the new Reed part: “I’ll back that whole part……aside from maybe that ending nasal slide. But that was really sick to get to see so much footage of Kenny. Seems like it’s been a while. Spots are epic as always. Song was a bit lackluster too. But it IS the internet afterall.” My question to you based on your comment is, since you said “But it IS the internet afterall”, are you suggesting that Kenny is going to have a better, non-internet skate part that will be coming out and that part was just an “internet part”? What did you mean by “it IS the internet afterall?” Because to me that sounds like a bit of an excuse. Also, do amazing spots make a good video part? Or as you said, “fully backed”. Third, if you had a free ticket to travel the world, would it be difficult not to find “good” spots? I haven’t seen the part yet because my machine doesn’t play some youtube and Vimeo clips, but I’m curious to see the part. I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’m just wondering what exactly what you’re review meant and especially what “it is the internet afterall” meant. I’m also wondering why it took Chris Field to mention the part when usually you’re pretty up on all the “Static” dude’s offerings. Again, that sounded a bit like an excuse. But hey, I’m just a mildewy towel.

Towel is one badass mother nigga!

30. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 12:36 PM

Alright….fair enough. Basically, what I meant by the comment was that I didn’t really think that the song added anything to his part. But, I personally wouldn’t want to waste a good song on an internet video myself. Hence my “it IS just the internet” comnent. I have no idea if there’s a better or longer part in the works for Reed. I doubt it because he used a hefty chunk of footage in this piece already. There are a few clips I wasn’t “backing” in his part, which I could say about most people’s video parts. But, over all, I’m a Kenny Reed fan and I was stoked on most of his footage and, as you’ve said yourself, it’s important to just see the people we like skating and doing what we’ve come to enjoy about their skating. Kenny is always a stickler for finding bizarre spots in remote locations around the word. And he didn’t disappoint this time around. The part is shorter than a full length part though and I didn’t like the final noseslide. It just shouldn’t have ended off his part.
There’s my honest opinion.
Now, tear it apart.

Glad to have you back…....now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get this old bottle of stress medication refilled at the pharmacy.

Theories of Atlantis.. “LET’S BE FRIENDS!”

38. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 10:24 PM

Yes, but don’t all video’s end up on the internet these days? So do “bizarre spots in remote locations around the world” make a good video part? And then again, if you had a paid ticket around the world, would you have a difficult time finding “bizarre spots”?

39. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 10:43 PM

And it was Jeff Pang who said the bit about seeing people do their thang, not me. That is of course, if it doesn’t hurt to watch.

40. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 10:43 PM

I would say good spots being utilized correctly(matter of opinion) make for a good part, yeah. Even if the dude’s skating hurts, if the spots are good enough, I would give it at least a full watch through..

41. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 10:45 PM

But does it make it good? Or as “Josh” said, “fully backed”. Was it that the skating was good or was it that the spots were “bizarre” and in “remote parts of the world”? Because to me, finding “bizarre” skate spots in “remote parts of the world” is easy if you have a paid plane ticket and no rent to worry about. But then say you have that paid airline ticket and you go out and find those “bizarre spots” and film on them, does that mean you then have a good video part? Just wondering. Again, I haven’t seen the part yet.

42. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 11:27 PM

And you know what I mean by “easy”. Obviously nothing is “easy”.

43. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 05 at 11:29 PM

hey tbay how does reeds dick taste? like burning wood from that nasal slide?

49. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 08 at 12:07 AM

to the guy talking about how ¨easy¨ it should be to find spots:
first off, it´s always easy, no matter where you are, you just go out and dedicate lots of time to cruising around and finding them, thinking about how something can be skated, then coordinating with someone to document it.
But how many pros actually do that? very, very few.
How often do you do it?

Secondly, you suggest the international angle makes it easier.
You know how many active american pros live outside the states? there´s Kenny, Bourne (if he still qualifies) and who else? go ahead and try to name 5.
So there´s zero grounds for saying that putting together a part like Kenny´s is easy,  because NOBODY ELSE IS DOING IT.
Lots of people travel to film, they go in a group, they get in a van with a local shop dude, and go to the same spots everyone else does. congratulations

Is it ¨Good¨ skateboarding?
Well what is ¨street¨ skateboarding? It´s a business, it´s a league, it´s a look, and oh yeah, somewhere along the way it was about actually being in the streets, exploration, original interaction with original environments.
I would argue that without that last element it is pretty fucking soulless and boring.
You take that out of the equation and all you have left is the business of organized sport.

So those kids can nolie heelflip krooked grind at the maloof money cup all they want, they got nothing on Kenny going somewhere new, finding something new, and doing something that makes you wonder.

I repeat, if it´s so easy, how come nobody else is doing it?

50. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 08 at 12:19 AM

Bote, your a tool. I didn’t even reed(ha) your shit, you’re such a tool. Go play with yourself.

51. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 08 at 12:38 AM

you come off real bitter. This is less about Kenny and more about what you think you should get/ should have gotten isn´t it.

52. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 09 at 12:35 AM

it´s pathetic seeing you chase around these boards, so I thought I´d adress your question, but obviously you have no real desire to do anything but piss and moan.

53. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 09 at 12:40 AM

You haven’t figured that out by now?

54. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 10 at 08:48 PM

I´m new, give me a minute.

55. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 10 at 11:19 PM

Bote makes a good point…...Towel’s comeback is pretty much the blog equivalent of “I know your are but what am I?”

56. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 11 at 12:02 AM

Alright, I’m not going to play your games Tearorizer. Really, you can’t expect me to take that bait, can you? I made some really good points and then this kid comes on here and made his points(did you read what he wrote? Read it, comment 50) And then tell me this kids not a tool. I rest my case. Besides, you shouldn’t have a problem recognizing a PC tool because your cut from the same cloth. So yeah, “I know you are, but what am I?”. Don’t you tools realize you do the same shit every time you respond with shit like “Bote makes a good point…...Towel’s comeback is pretty much the blog equivalent of “I know your are but what am I?” The only difference is that you dress your shit up like some intellectual self righteous defender of all things fake good. The only thing is that you come off as a total phony. It’s painfully obvious you’re scared to say what you really think because your afraid of the social repercussions and obsessed with maintaining your delicate political and fake social order. You’re a complete farce. A phony. You and your websites a pacifier. Read what the kid wrote. “It´s a business, it´s a league, it´s a look”. It’s a complete crock of bull. I can tell this kid is wet behind the ear. I’m sorry, a DOG. Read his comment again. The both of you are tools and you both know it. So when you say he makes a good point about 52 and 53, yeah sure he does, I addressed that in 54. But don’t you realize that what he’s saying is exactly what we’re all engaged in on this website as well? You do it the same damn thing. He’s doing it right there. You guys are simply under this belief because your comments are dressed up as fake “positive” and since you hurl insults at my comments for being supposedly “negative”, that your are a better person. And that you are noble and that I’m just self motivated. I tried to engage you with questions and this kid answered with a crock of bull about Scott Bourne. I saw right away this kid had an idea about what he was talking about, but an idea that was forged from reading one too many issues of Kingpin. So I got news for ya bud, all of our comments on here are self motivated . We wouldn’t be wasting our precious time with this banter if we weren’t. So when you said he makes a good point, I recognize it immediately as a feeble attempt from you to stoke the flames just so you can keep a discussion going and maintain interest in your pathetic website. Good try, but definitely not working this time. You just came off like the tool you are.

57. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on February 11 at 08:34 AM

i dont have intergnat all the time. Anyway towel, you are wrong about me, i don`t talk about what i don`t know about, if you can`t see my syntax for what it is, I think maybe you`ve been staring at the lightbulb too long is all.
I will admit that I feel a little protective of Kenny and that influences my opinion, but that comes from an appreciation of skateboarding and his place in it.
I didn`t realize who you were at first, for what`s it`s worth I think you are one of the few recognizable pros exempt from the laziness I alluded to, but you`re hardly the authority on international spot recon.
I`d gladly tell you who I am so you could pass judgement more pointedly, but you do a fine job as it is and my name would mean nothing to you. Didn`t need google for Eric Blair though, I`ll tell you that, I been down and out in Paris London and a few more too.

58. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 07:11 PM

But more importantly, who cares?

59. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 07:27 PM

Of course I’m wrong about you. I’m always wrong about everything. Again, who cares. But riddle me this. If I’m not an authority on “international spot recon”(whatever that means), then what makes you?

60. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 07:31 PM

“International spot recon”, or even just plain old “spot recon” means absolutely nothing if you can’t do it in your own backyard. What I mean is if you can’t re-interpret your own surroundings from time to time and therefore depend on a hand to hold or a hand-out to film your video part on, you might as well hang up the godamned sled. The worse thing I can think off is watching some American shithead have a whole video part in China or Spain cause they’re too goddamned lazy to use his brain. And then having it be bad on top of that. But hey, that’s just my opinion. And remember, we all have them. Nice talking to you.

61. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 07:40 PM

Towel rips niggas apart like string cheese

62. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 09:27 PM

Or string theory.

63. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 02 at 10:39 PM

I`m not knocking knowing your own backyard, I`m not even comparing the two, I`m saying that being outside your known geography and trying to get something done on a skateboard has its own particular complications and value. Doing something in the face of adversity doesn`t necessarily make that thing good, but it`s a part of the equation.
I`m essentially taking issue with your suggestion that travelling the world somehow makes it easier to find good spots in posts 25, 42.
It might make it easier to get footage on unseen spots, but actually going somewhere new and finding your own shit is not something that most people do. The spots you see in China and Spain were found long before the tour van pulled up for its half hour of bangers. And the process of actually going out and cruising the streets, looking for stuff is not any easier in a place where you don`t fit in or speak the language, or have a mcdonalds on the corner where you can stop to take dump. and then there`s no toilet paper, but that`s another story

64. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 03 at 08:54 AM

what makes me an authority on international spot recon is that I`ve done a lot of it.

65. by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on March 03 at 08:56 AM
