NYC:”Rhyme and Reason” Static III premiere event
Holy hell…..it’s 4am and I just got home from the events of the “Rhyme and Reason” Static III premiere night.
I lost my voice and haven’t slept in a month, I think.
I’ll provide a long write-up with photos, videos, etc soon. But here’s a quick late-night review.
I was worried about filling up the theater….it ended up with over 500 people in the house, with people (including myself) sitting on the floor, steps, hanging from the chandelliere….whatever would work.
There was an amazingly diverse crowd consisting of people like Josh Kalis, Jeru The Damaja, Tony Manfre, Lance Mountain, Josh Friedberg, Dan Wolfe, Steve Rodriguez, Brian Brown, Rodney Torres, Zach Lyons, Chet Childress and Fred Gall. SO random but so sick.
We had some major technical difficulties to start the night off, but eventually got things off and it was such an amazing feeling to see the film on that huge screen with that many people in the theater.
People were patient and bared with us when most people would’ve left after it took us an hour to get the film to play right.
I was a little disturbed by the fact that half the people who stormed the theater in the beginning, left before the film was over, when there was still 5-6 minutes of credits left to go. But I got over it….I know people wanted to get out of that boiling hot premiere and into the bars. What I couldn’t BELIEVE is that out of 500 people who showed up to the premiere, only 200 made their way over to the FREE Jeru show at the Novo Lounge after-party. Novo put on a great event at such a last-minute situation. They made sure everybody got in, hooked our crew up with drink tickets, played the illest 90’s hip-hop and then let Jeru do a 30 minute set, with Vinnie Ponte DJ’ing, where he performed “Come Clean” and “Statik” out of respect for Static I and Static II for which those Jeru songs closed and opened.
He gave shout-outs to Josh Kalis, Danny Supa and his boy Vinnie Ponte in the middle of his songs and even ended the song “Statik” by saying something like “Y’all stepped into my realm for the premiere of….Static”
Dude seriously hooked it up. For Jeru to treat us with the respect he did and to make a point of putting on an awesome show, it seriously made me have to step back and thank the universe for letting this happen. What a way to end a night after a Static III premiere.

We have to thank Autumn, KCDC, Jeremy at Autumn, Greg Chapman, Jeru, Novo Lounge, Josh Kalis, Vinnie Ponte and the massive hordes of people that came out the event. This was one for the history books and I was so stoked and proud to be a part of it.
More on this event coming soon.
G’nite!
And did I mention that Lil’ Dap was there? I’d say meeting him was the highlight of the night if there hadn’t been a million highlights to choose from. Thank you to everybody. I’m still in disbelief.

Well, Im guaranteed. Anyone else? 4 days to go!

“Reason?”
Comment by Alex # October 14, 2007 at 2:44 pm
There are more definitions of reason than the one you’re thinking of Alex.
Open up a dictionary my friend.
Comment by Theorizer # October 14, 2007 at 2:45 pm
It was a joke. Open up your mind.
Comment by Alex # October 14, 2007 at 4:16 pm
My mind is too tired….it’s been open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
It needs to close soon for repairs.
Comment by Theorizer # October 14, 2007 at 4:47 pm
you’re telling me. With an event title like that, I’d say get a new one.

When are you planning to email me my confirmation on the ticket purchases cause its been a few hours and Im getting antsy!
Comment by papa # October 14, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Yo Papa….I’ve e-mailed you your confirmation 3 times but yahoo keeps bouncing your e-mail back to me saying that the message failed to deliver.
I’ll try mailing your address from my other account. Hopefully it’s just yahoo and not your bogus e-mail address.
Comment by Theorizer # October 14, 2007 at 11:11 pm
Theorizer, you are correct I didnt realize I blew it on my e-mail with paypal, sorry about that dude. Thanks for being patient with it, I really appreciate it. Good luck with the editing.

Fuck yeah. Tickets bought, and I’m all ready to make that weird woaaaahahhahahahhaaa noise, when something epic appears in front of my eyes on a big projected screen.
Comment by philip # October 15, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Tickets are going fast guys…..half of them have sold already.
Hurry up and stake your claim.
Don’t wanna have to get my shoes wet in your river of tears that clogs the gutters after you and your friends mall-grab your boards all the way to the premiere and don’t make it in.
Comment by Theorizer # October 16, 2007 at 12:29 am
Josh, when can we pick tickets up from KCDC? I’m off today, so would be perfect if I could stop by.

i knew josh stweart wouldnt disappoint just like static I and II. but DAMN!
the filming was phenomenol aswell as the editing. i dont think i have to mention the selection of people. i think everyone knows josh has good taste.
but everyones part was outstanding in all aspects.
honestly i think stewart should win an award for this thing haha.

That video was worth all the jersey assholes like myself, the extra hour to see it, and the beer flying through the air when that one dude was taken out. Static 3 was just the way I want a video to be. Styles for miles. Pat Stiener and Nate Broussard, I cant get enough of those characters. Thanks Josh, you came through stronger than we ever could of imagined.

I was hammered last night. I think the video was awesome.?
j/k Josh, the video was amazing. Jeru was amazing. All in all an amazing night, thanks for everything.
Comment by Jura # October 19, 2007 at 7:42 am
Haha…it was so funny when half the theater started shouting at the northeast corner ot the theater to “shut up Jersey” as I tried to make my speech and the Jersey crew was goin apeshit.
I think the quote of the night might’ve been Fred Gall’s when he said “This dude has been SHOT, he’s sick….he rides for Metal”…..then he kicked a full garbage can over into a cab and walked off.
Jura was swinging from the chandelieres!….he begged me at one point to introduce him to Lil’ Dap from the Group Home.
I told him I was afraid he’d destroy any good repor I had with him, being that Jura was a bit sloshed at this point.
So I give in, we walk over to Lil’ Dap, who’s off the fuckin CHAIN by the way, and the next thing I know we’ve smashed Dap’s game and Jura and I are talking to Dap’s girl while Jura is urging her to go to AreYouAVictim.com to research 9/11, etc.
It was nutballs. I finally was like “Jura man…you’re fuckin up Lil’ Dap’s game man.” and ushered him out of the scene.
It was pretty hilarious.

Dude, come on now. She asked ME about the shirt. I was merely shooting the shit with her. Plus, YOU didnt notice, that for about 10 minutes, Lil Dap was burning a hole in the back of my head for talking to his chicky. You were the sober one, youre supposed to notice things like that. I was truly hammered though. I hope I didnt offend anyone too bad.
Anywho, thanks again Josh. I had a lovely time last night, all thanks to Static 3!!!

hahaha, classic. An Epic night all round. I think everyone was stoked… I thought it was weird that there weren’t too many people at the after party compared to the premiere too, but it might have something to do with it being 21+. Still fuck all that, the video was amazing… hurry up and get that shit onto DVD I need another fix… and the Jeru was killing it.
Man, what am I going to look forward to doing next Thursday?
