Time Machine #12: Rickie Dixon
One of the smoothest skaters ever to come out of Florida, Rickie Dixon was one of my favorites. Refusing to move out of his hometown of St. Petersburg, it was often difficult to get together enough to film. But when we did it was usually worth it.
The following is a collection of footage starting in 1996 and ending around 2001….enjoy.

I always wanted to see this dude end up on Chocolate or something, but he’s chilling now as an architect so I doubt he’s sweating it.

Rickie had an uncanny resemblance to “SAD” from LA. Minus the blond moustache or handkerchief. “SAD” was supposedly an acronym for “Simple As Death”.
Our old nickname for him was “Rickie As Dixon”.

Damn that was all good. Switch front heels were amazing. I also liked that back180 nosegrind- extremely stylish. Did I see an Orlando spot in there too? That spot in Sanford is still around today! That’s the plaza where Metro skatepark used to be. A+ post

Eh, that was ok. Harsh song, harsh edit and harsh spots. Couple of good tricks. I think all we needed to see was that nollie nose slides line, the back 80 nosegrind, the nollie heel over the rail and the switch flip, and Chocolate coulda been a reality. It’s just straight footage.
Oh, that’s right, I produced it.
It could’ve been produced by an 8th grade TV production class, with fake graffiti titles, sparkle effects and a Kelly Clarkson song and you wouldn’t have anything bad to say about it.
But since Theorizer put it together, it is all of a sudden “harsh”.
If only the Towel could produce flow charts for me each morning so I knew the right way to go about my life.

Not many people could make a half-cab down a gap look legit, but Ricky had the ability to do just that. I always loved seeing his footage, in part because it was so rare, but also because how unique his style was.
Also, that Atlanta (Decatur) line was in one of the first Westside videos! Was always psyched to get Theorizer footy in the vids.
Good post- nostalgic and smooth, and that’s what it’s about. I don’t care if there were too many half-cab noseslides or whatever. I care about the feeling I get watching old footage of an iconic Florida skateboarder that I looked up to as a young buck. Some will get that, some won’t, no big deal, no reason to fester on it. You can try to descry the motives in one’s thought or commenting process, but it would be a waste of time.
Enjoy what you enjoy, and keep moving forward.

Oh, and “thisispathetic”…..keep in mind that new skate videos take 2-3 years to produce. Money has to be earned in the interim to fund these videos that nobody buys. Then filming has to begin, traveling, pit falls and triumphs……roughly halfway through this process a trailer gets edited. Then re-edited. Graphics are applied and then it is compressed and posted on websites.
In this 3 year processs, the empty space must be filled with SOMEthing. And, let’s be honest. The Towel makes me want to stab small animals and punch babies in the throat….but his bizarre presence on this site keeps the down time between posts of 10 year old footage and games of skate a lot more tolerable and entertaining.
I appreciate your support in the past, trust me, but one lesson is to be learned here. Never “look up” to anybody. They’ll only let you down in the end. Especially when they’re a couple of grown up children who play with skateboards and think that protecting real street skating is more important than having girlfriends, paying bills or havng a life.
