That SLAP Mag retrospective piece has been out for a month now, but I was recently told that I’d forgotten to list Paul Shier as one of the skaters I’ve done a part with. Haha, I can only imagine Paul’s face when he first watched that thing and saw no mention of him. Once I realized this gross error I figured I’d better make it up to the guy, considering that his “Static II” part was by far one of my favorite segments I’ve ever gotten to work on. Then I began hearing rumors floating around about Blueprint and it hit me that the best way to clear all of this stuff up would be to do an interview feature with Paul and get the full story from the source. So our friends in London helped me out last minute and whipped up this, Theories’ first video interview.
Jahmal Williams has a new interview on 48Blocks which just went up yesterday. It was the official
launching of his first Hopps commercial as well. Check the interview here and watch the commercial by clicking the image below. I uploaded a higher-resolution version now since the original version was looking pretty pixelated. And here’s the low resolution version Mail Order Bride dvdrip

“…to fully comprehend the significance of the life, thought, and work of Martin Luther King Jr and the profound enormity of his loss, it is vital to consider his vision of the human condition-not only its vast potential, but the gradual dehumanization which he saw as the consequence of the dominance of western materialism. He was convinced that the values of love and caring, which had forever underpinned humane civil societies, were in decline in his native land. The dominion of materialism had virtually excluded spirituality or cleverly diverted an unconscious yearning for a spiritual connection into an insatiable quest for money….He believed this way was the slippery slope to personal and cultural self-destruction.
Consequently, what was required, King believed, was a fundamental change in how we viewed ourselves and our world, nothing less than an alteration of our perception of reality.”

So, with the continuing discussions of the BART shooting in San Francisco, and the ongoing horrors of the Gaza conflict, we continue the topic of injustice in this weeks installment of the Theories book club. Today the club returns to nerd out on a new book that is rocking my literary world entitled “An Act of State” by attorney William F. Pepper. The book chronicles the author’s nearly 30 year search for the truth behind the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Similar to “Crossfire”, the last book featured in the book club, “An Act of State” unearths mountains of shocking new evidence tying none other than your lovely and trustworthy US government and military to the killing, which it quickly becomes obvious, was a military operation from start to finish. But what makes Mr. Pepper’s story even more enthralling is following along with him during his own journey of discovery as he hunts down witnesses, key players and even face to face meetings with the alleged assassin himself. The man to bring the only real trial in the murder of MLK has brought us an incredible book that should be required reading for every American citizen and student alike.
Buy this book and your view of our country will change forever.Buster movie
Suffering from a severe drout on post ideas, I’m resorting to drastic measures.
After asking both The Towel and Mr. Pennypacker if they thought it was a good idea for me to post this on Theories, they both answered with a resounding “Hell fucking no!”. That actually only encouraged me more, considering that some readers’ most enjoyable internet moments are spent wrecking me in the comments section. Well, now I’m basically lobbing world’s easiest softball to you so, take your best shot.
I’ve never shown this thing to anybody since the day I finished it 5 months ago…but desperate times and all. So, this summer I was randomly hired to shoot and edit a Japanese rap video. Yes, you read that right. But I was intrigued after learning it was featuring Kool G Rap as the guest MC. Apparently the video had been shot already but the producer was unhappy with the results of the first director. So, what you see here is a combination of footage shot by that director (all the black and white footage) and then my shots (all color) and editing.
Now I know you’re all gonna have a field day with this one , but remember to save some insults for future posts. Because, with the growing depression and dead-as-a-doornail skate video industry, 2009 promises to be a year choc FULL of embarrassing jobs. So there is more to look forward to for sure.
I’ve been hypnotized by Jake Kotze’s little blog videos for a couple of years now and have linked them off of Theories here and there. But whenever I link somebody to his video pieces, I find it nearly impossible to explain just what the hell is going on in them without sounding like a whack job. Finally, somebody sat him down for an interview and gets him to define the concept behind his theory of what he calls “Synchromysticism”. And specifically defines the connection and significance of the twin towers and what he terms the “9/11 Mega-ritual”. Fuckin SO sick. This guy is brilliant and the connections he finds in popular culture are just stunning. Mission: Impossible divx
I have started to see them now myself whenever I’m watching movies in the theater. It actually made the recent movie “The Spirit” bearable when I started noticing all of the esoteric symbolism and synchromystic connections occurring beneath all the absolutely shit dialogue. Anyways, give this video a thorough watch and you will probably become as fascinated with it as I am. And I can’t wait to see the documentary this interview was shot for, “Nosis – A Cinematic Vision Quest”.
A friend of mine, Jeremy Elkin, from Montreal recently released his video “Lo-def” which you can actually download for free directly off his website. It’s a no-frills, short (14min) film featuring a wide range of styles and terrain with some really sick spots and some pretty ill skating. He’s currently working on a new release of the video including an hour of bonus ftg. He sent me some copies of “Lo-def” the other day so I figure I’ll throw ‘em into the packages of the next 5 people who place an order on Theories. Check out Jeremy’s video
This was originally a post about Tony Manfre’s radio show last night.
But now that that’s over, we may as well let the comments section take over….as it usually does anyways. The Federal Farmer has brought up some really interesting issues, particularly about
situations of police officers acting as agents provacateurs and inciting riots in peaceful protests as an excuse to get the broken up. Check some of the links below. And here’s an interview I forgot was posted on another online magazine’s site it contains some photos you may not have seen yet from Static 3. There’s an English version of the interview on the last few pages, starting on page 55.
