So, I’m in Tampa for the next week…it’ll be nice to have my car again and just hang with some friends, may try to meet up with one of my old girls. I was busy tonight spending a night out with my family, but I’ll try my best to get a new post up soon.

So I have no witty links for you today…no clever digital photos and no free video clips.
Just a few thoughts on some frightening observations I’ve made over the last coupla’ weeks while searching for jobs online and talking with friends in the skateboard industry. The general consensus, as I have gathered, is that we are in trouble, my cyber friends. There’s a pale horse riding this way and it’s kicking up some heavy dust as it’s trot advances into a steady gallop. If the driving force of the skteboard industry is the video market, than it would only make sense that video sales should act as the sort of “canary in the mine” to help us predict things to come. And the more I talk to people at companies which should by all means be thriving, the more I become convinced that we are all aboard a steam train to the skate-apocalypse.
As I started to study video sales, relative to the current supposed number of practicing skateboarders worldwide, I came to a frightening revelation…….less than 1/2 of one percent of skateboarders support the companies and videos they like by actually BUYING videos. Wow! That is unbelievable.
And as I talk to more and more company owners, pro skaters and industry people the darker the picture gets. A lot of the companies we love and care about, the ones that aren’t owned by Viacom, Newscorp or the like, are in serious trouble. Skaters are buying less boards, videos, etc and in turn, the industry is losing it’s ability to pay pros liveable wages, losing it’s ability to pay filmers at all and losing it’s ability to produce real videos.
When an industry is brought to it’s knees, brilliant ideas and important cultural influence are bought for pennies on the dollar. And that is exactly what has been happening and is coninuing to pick up at a more rapid pace as of late. Skateboarding is getting stolen right out from under your feet and nobody seems the wiser. Or is it more that nobody cares? We definitely reap what we sew and if we continue to take from a scene that we put nothing back in to, we will soon find ourselves sitting on Craigslist at 9pm on a Wednesday night, searching for jobs while the pale horse tramples all over our former way of life.

So here we are again, clicking through Steve Brandi’s digi point & shoot camera he left in my bag on accident yesterday. Let’s see what little random moments we can discover creeping through his record of creeping. Looks like today’s batch is from an outing to the park…awwww. Looks like it was with Bob and our friend DJ Craig from Tampa. And, hmmm, let’s see here….what the JESUS!?! What the shit did these dudes get themselves into? Holy hell…fortunately for us, it appears they eventually got the hell outta there and moved on just in time to catch this hella tight fade and one of the illest performers I’ve seen in the underground scene yet. Wow, that was sick!….aw, and it looks like that’s where the camera runs out. Oh well, until next time you forget your camera in my bag, Steve…have a good night.

Just when you start to get full of yourself and begin to believe that you’re an actual “artist” you have to stumble across somebody with actual talent to totally smash your ego to bits and send you back to square one.
