Begin the premiere blog…

I’ll start uploading images from each of the 12 different premieres every other day.
Tonight we’re starting with Tampa, the world premiere.
Don’t forget this is Tampa…we don’t have much going on down there. Aligators, trucks, drinking and the skatepark of tampa. Pretty much it.

London smashed it!

The London premiere was off the chain!!!….only thing missing was a Jeru show to end the night.
The London skate scene is so supportive and the people came out in droves to support the event and make the night go off w/out a hitch. I bored the crowd with a painfully long speech, then hit “play” only to find that it played through perfectly with not a single glitch and the crowd made myself, as well as Olly and Soy who were also in the crowd, very proud of the 2 years of hard work we’d just wrapped up.
London is amazing and so is their skate scene. The companies and people that came together at the last minute to make this happen are such good people. Jacob Sawyer & Dan Magee at Slam City Skates, James @ Carhartt, Gareth @ Pointer, Niall @ Kingpin and Fos @ Landscape all came through in the clutch to make this event happen. Then the local skaters showed up in droves to support the event, paying an admission w/ no questions asked to help make this event possible.
Thank you to everybody involved, and especially to the hundreds of skaters who showed up in droves to support the event. Static has developed a love affair with London that runs nearly 5 years deep now, and for good reason. London is off the chain and it has one of the illest scenes left in skteboarding today.
Thanks for everything!
Long photo-blog of all premiere events coming very soon!

NYC:”Rhyme and Reason” Static III premiere event

Holy hell…..it’s 4am and I just got home from the events of the “Rhyme and Reason” Static III premiere night.
I lost my voice and haven’t slept in a month, I think.
I’ll provide a long write-up with photos, videos, etc soon. But here’s a quick late-night review.
I was worried about filling up the theater….it ended up with over 500 people in the house, with people (including myself) sitting on the floor, steps, hanging from the chandelliere….whatever would work.
There was an amazingly diverse crowd consisting of people like Josh Kalis, Jeru The Damaja, Tony Manfre, Lance Mountain, Josh Friedberg, Dan Wolfe, Steve Rodriguez, Brian Brown, Rodney Torres, Zach Lyons, Chet Childress and Fred Gall. SO random but so sick.
We had some major technical difficulties to start the night off, but eventually got things off and it was such an amazing feeling to see the film on that huge screen with that many people in the theater.
People were patient and bared with us when most people would’ve left after it took us an hour to get the film to play right.
I was a little disturbed by the fact that half the people who stormed the theater in the beginning, left before the film was over, when there was still 5-6 minutes of credits left to go. But I got over it….I know people wanted to get out of that boiling hot premiere and into the bars. What I couldn’t BELIEVE is that out of 500 people who showed up to the premiere, only 200 made their way over to the FREE Jeru show at the Novo Lounge after-party. Novo put on a great event at such a last-minute situation. They made sure everybody got in, hooked our crew up with drink tickets, played the illest 90’s hip-hop and then let Jeru do a 30 minute set, with Vinnie Ponte DJ’ing, where he performed “Come Clean” and “Statik” out of respect for Static I and Static II for which those Jeru songs closed and opened.
He gave shout-outs to Josh Kalis, Danny Supa and his boy Vinnie Ponte in the middle of his songs and even ended the song “Statik” by saying something like “Y’all stepped into my realm for the premiere of….Static”
Dude seriously hooked it up. For Jeru to treat us with the respect he did and to make a point of putting on an awesome show, it seriously made me have to step back and thank the universe for letting this happen. What a way to end a night after a Static III premiere.

We have to thank Autumn, KCDC, Jeremy at Autumn, Greg Chapman, Jeru, Novo Lounge, Josh Kalis, Vinnie Ponte and the massive hordes of people that came out the event. This was one for the history books and I was so stoked and proud to be a part of it.
More on this event coming soon.
G’nite!
And did I mention that Lil’ Dap was there? I’d say meeting him was the highlight of the night if there hadn’t been a million highlights to choose from. Thank you to everybody. I’m still in disbelief.

Tampa, World Premieres and Sinking Ships…..

Just got home from the Tampa premiere of Static III.
Holy Heyzuse!
OK…well, first of all if you guys could only see the photos I have on this digital camera right now. Serious, this shit is straight up gold. If there was a skateboard version of “Extra” or “Entertainment Tonight” I’d be a millionare right now. Just wait.
Only problem is I have no way of uploading them right now since all my connectors are in New York.
So….I was flattered beyond belief by the turnout. Although it looked like a pirate convention and people were boozing it up and smoking weed in this super nice theater, we had Danny Renaud, Chris Williams, Ed Selego, Joe Perrin, Pat Stiener, Jon Newport, Jimmy Lannon and Rickie goddamned Dixon in the house. And that’s a serious S. East roundup right there. So thanks to all that showed, it was nostalgic to say the least.
Now….what if you worked for 2 years of your life, every damned day, on a video…spent every penny you owned and even took out a 2nd mortgage on your house to finish it, had your parents, your friends, your entire state, an amazing theater and all the positivity and support in the world……and right in the middle of your premiere, the projector shuts down?
And what if the projection booth is a 10 minute sprint away through elevators, stairs, theater staff, etc? And what if 15 minutes later, once you get it back up and running, half the theater has gone outside to buy more beer and smoke cigarettes, but it doesn’t even matter cuz the projector crashes AGAIN!!!…..and then, once you finally get it back and working, for some unknown twist in the Bermuda Triangle that is my life, the fucking film plays black + white the rest of the way through?
I mean, what the hell man….you couldn’t write this stuff.
And to top it all off people are thinking it’s a directorial artistic decision and congratulating me on the idea….haha.
On paper tonight was an absolute fuckin disaster…seriously, I mean that’s w/out question.
But, for those first 20 minutes that it played clean, getting to sit in the theater and watch the film projected the size of the Empire State building with all of Florida cheering on Pat Stiener and Danny Renaud, it was worth every penny and every projection problem that could come my way.
Thank you so much to everybody for coming out. Even with all the problems and failures, the feedback was incredible. People seem to be really happy with the skaters’ parts and I’m happy that I’ve learned to never play a video with time-code breaks in it at your world premiere.
No lets keep as many things secret as we can and not spoil stuff for the DC, Miami, NY, SF, Boston, London and Paris premieres happening in the next 2 weeks.

Pre-premiere jitters…

Lionel Ritchie, I feel your pain

……pulled 2 all-night-longers in the past 4 days to get a presentable copy of the video done in time for the world premiere in Tampa tomorrow. I caught some sort of plague after the first night of no sleep, now I’m fighting off the whooping-crane cough after another all-night edit-fest. Worked into the wee hours with with my friend Josh Bertrand from Red Labor to get the intro done on time and the early premiere copies written to DVD to mail out to the other cities. I feel like I just gave birth to an ugly child after 2 years of horrific labor. It’s not the video I want it to be yet. Hopefully noone will notice for the first few premieres and we can have it up to par by the time New York gets here, one week from tomorrow.
I’m gonna go take a nap now.
