It’s not all bad….
Ahhh…it’s so refreshing to see skateboarding getting back to it’s roots…back to the heart of the meaning of what it’s all about.

So Bob and I attended another insane screening the other night in the dark cellar of a random Jazz bar in the lower east side of Manhattan.
The organizer has been choosing some amazing underground films to show and this most recent one took the cake. It’s not produced too terribly well, and the narrator leading us along the way looks like Marlon Brando’s exhumed corpse, but it got some incredible points across.
I don’t care if you’ve got the time or not, this one is a must watch. Especially the last 20 or so minutes.
Here’s the trailer to get you enticed.

Wow, it’s like a full-frontal assault and you’re none the wiser. I told you to keep your eyes open, I told you that the signs are all around us. But no, you were too busy sleepin outside Walmart in your pup tent waiting for the new X-Box to arrive.
They’re playing dirty now…..

Is there a word or phrase that refers to the phenomenon of when a large corporate organization or an onslaught of corporate monsters buy into a movement to feed off it’s energy and the buying power of it’s practitioners only to eventually delegitamize that very movement they were feeding off of and basically run it into the ground? I’ve never heard a phrase or term that actually captures this entire phenom, but I’d love to hear some if anybody knows one or has some creative names of their own.
Whatever it is, it’s happening/already happened to skateboarding. Every company worth it’s weight in cancelled pensions has used skateboarding to sell it’s product. Skateboarding is basically the new rollerblading, the new hot pop song on the radio, or the new putting a ribbon on your bumper in support of some meaningless patriotic cause. Everybody wants a piece of it and nobody realizes that they’re all just cutting off slices of a post mordem horse.
It’s happening in art, in fashion, entertainment and holy crap it’s even happening in politics…..(well, I guess that’s not exactly a new phenomenon)
I read something ages ago that I didn’t understand until I actually saw it realized in front of me these past few years. I can’t remember the quote directly, but the basic idea was that at one point in the government’s/power-elite’s war against the people and against dangerous ideas and movements, it realized that when it fought these movements, it only strengthened the people’s belief in the ideas behind them. As we learned in V For Vendetta ideas cannot die. But if the idea is delegitamized and devalued allowing it to be bought in to by corporate multinationals, spread amongst pre-teens and MTV fans worldwide, the idea loses it’s edge and, just as quickly, it’s meaning and followers. This technique is nothing new, your mom used it when it was called reverse psychology. But little did you know that one day your very own government would use it against you to turn that beautiful cause, music or artform you’ve based your life around into nothing more than a worldwide joke.
You’ve got to hand it to them, they are damn good!Cherry Crush

Wow!
Attended a screening last night in the city that blew me away.
Loose Change 2nd Edition
First check out the story above then click this image link to watch the Loose Change documentary. It’s about an hour and a half long, so pour a cup of tea, grab some cookies and a few napkins, you slob, and prepare for madness.

This has turned from a cruel joke into straight up cruel and unusual punishment.
Not only are these dicks going to ship more than 21,000 ADDITIONAL troops out to into this bloodbath we call Iraq, at a cost of another $5.6 BILLION, but the newest gem laid onto our already beaten-into-the-ground armed forces is an elimination of the time-limits that our active-duty servicemen can be kept in service. In other words, countless soldiers who’s lives have already been shat upon from all angles are seeing their service in Iraq lengthened AGAIN!!!…. “Um, yeah, you know how we told you that we wouldn’t and couldn’t keep you here longer than 24 months?…eh, well, um..we kinda lied”. And then, to rub desert sand into the already gaping wound, David Chu, the Pentagon’s chief of personell, actually used the words “no big deal” to describe the impact that this would have on the affected soldiers. I shit you not! Tell that to the Marine infantry units that are right now being told they have to spend an additional 3 MONTHS in Iraq. You and I wouldn’t last 34 goddamned seconds there, let alone 3 months on top of an already served 24. This is illegal, plain and simple.
