Book of Broken Dreams:Part 4

The BOBD is filled examples of my feeble attempts at photography from yesteryear that never saw the light of day. And an occasional photo that WAS printed but likely slipped under your radar.
Let’s see what we’ve got today.
1. Nate Jones moved to Tampa around the end of the millenium and stuck around for about 1 year. But somehow I manged to end up with more photos of him from this time, than almost anybody else. Here is a front blunt in front of a pawn shop right near the Skatepark of Tampa from about 1999.
2. Some time around 1997-98 I ended up in Atlanta quite often. Back then, there was an empty foundation in the heart of downtown rigged up with ramps, boxes, etc. There was a sick scene of skaters there pretty regularly including Steve Young, Jeremiah Babb, Jay Buck, Graham Bickerstaff, Jed Davis, Stormy Pruett and a skater who’d been killing it since the 80’s, Fred Reeves. I was pretty stoked to get a photo of the dude. Unfortunately, it never ran.
3. Jimmy Chadwick, a Florida native, did the California thing for years and eventually made his way back to his home state around the late millenium. Jimmy was one of those incredibly talented skaters who people never really got a chance to appreciate. This straight nollie at the dog track in Tampa was the tip of the iceberg of his skills.

Book of Broken Dreams: Part 3

Some photos get printed but slip through the cracks, some disappear while at the magazine and some just get flat out denied. It’s time for another gander into my book of ancient skate photos that have been long forgotten, the book of broken dreams. Let’s see who we stumble onto today:
1. A fixture in the DC skate scene for well over a decade, this photo of Paul Macelroy from 1998 never made it onto the pages of a magazine, but I believe the footage was in Static.
2. Allen Russell was holding the Tampa scene down back in the day and managed to get a crack at this dope spot at a federal building in early 2001, just before the Sept 11th terrorist nonsense made skating it impossible.
3. And by special request during the last Book of Broken Dreams comes this photo of Nate Jones in Miami which ran in a 1999 issue of the now-deceased “Warp” magazine. They actually never sent me back the best slide from this shoot, so we’re left with this see-through image 10 years later.

The Book of Broken Dreams 2

Well, after getting shredded like a secret White House document with the last version of this post. I figured I’d give it another try. Maybe I just started with a bad batch? Shit if I know.
Anyways, here we go again. Hold onto your computer chairs.
1. Nate Jones-Backside tails in Miami (circa 1999)
2. Brandon Biebel-Frontside heels at Pulaski Park, Wash DC (circa 1999)
3. Steve Brandi-Frontside 5/0 hubba St. Pete, Florida (circa 1998)

The Book of Broken Dreams

It hit me the other day when thumbing through my old book of slides that I have a backlog of easily a hundred photos that never got used or printed. Bad for the skaters who’s photos never saw the light of day, good for us.
Welcome to the book of broken dreams:
1. Mike Rosa-Gaps out to a frontside nosegrinds in Orlando, circa 1999
2. Sean Mullendore-Backside tailslide in Bosont, circa 1999
3. Allen Russell-Backside tailslides in Tampa, circa 1997
